SO YOU HAVE DECIDED THAT YOU NEED A VIDEO TO PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS, YOUR SERVICES, OR A PRODUCT.

SO WHERE DO YOU BEGIN?

We always advise to start at the end. We know that might not seem logical but if you think about what you want your video to do once it is completed and shown across the globe this is a great starting point.

You might want your video to attract more attention to your products and services by building a greater awareness of your brand. You might want your video to be used as a selling tool to highlight what you do and how you do it. It might be used on your stand in an exhibition or event or might be put onto DVD to send to potential customers.

All of these factors of what you would like your video to achieve have to be taken into consideration, so that you can understand fully how your audience will view it.

Once you have decided what you need your video to achieve only then can you begin to plan the content.

SO WHAT’S NEXT?

Next is deciding the style that your video will adopt. There are so many ways of telling your story and the style of the video is very important. Do you want your video to feature any of your customers talking about how great your products and services are by way of a testimonial? Do you want your video to be a promotional highlights film to showcase your business as a snapshot of the services that you offer? Do you want to feature in the video yourself or would you prefer an animated version of you to do the talking for you? Or are you simply looking to focus on a specific project or case study that you have completed?

Your audience is the biggest deciding factor in choosing a style. Once you know the message that you want to tell your audience you will be able to decide upon your preferred style of video.

So you have decided what you want your video to achieve and chosen the style, but how long should your video be?

Again this all depends on what you want your video to achieve. If you want to attract your audience through social media, then you might want your video to be short and sweet, with a ten to fifteen second duration. If you want to showcase what you do through a video on your website, then you might want the duration to be longer at around two or three minutes. If however the video is to be put onto DVD and sent to prospective customers it might be closer to a five-minute duration. The important thing to consider here though is the switch off factor. Your audience will only keep watching your video if it keeps their interest and a video that is too long might lose them halfway through.

SO WHO IS YOUR AUDIENCE?

Who will watch your video depends on the target market that your video is aimed at. You might want to reach all ages with your video content and story but you also might have specific age range that you want your video to hit. For example if you are creating video content to reach a more younger demographic then your content might need to be quick, creative and instant. Or equally if you are aiming at an older demographic then your content might be more paced, provoking a more thought full message.

WHERE WILL YOUR CONTENT BE FILMED?

So you have a great business location with lots of creative office space, many people in your team and you really want to capture this on film. So your location of your video could be at your offices showcasing your excellent facilities. Equally you might be operating out of smaller offices with beige walls, filing cabinets and not the tidiest of desks. So the location of the shoot might be in a studio environment, where the backgrounds can be added in later in post-production. Or you might want to be filmed outside using the exterior of a great location as a backdrop. Whatever your location choice it should be thought through and a recce of your chosen location should be made to plan the filming.

HOW MUCH ARE YOU INVESTING IN YOUR VIDEO PROJECT?

This is not a trick question. We are often asked how much a video costs and as you can see by the above stages of the brief building process, there are many factors that need to be taken into account when creating your video. When we have all of this information we can begin planning your project and this takes form in three phases.

PRE-PRODUCTION

The first of these is the Pre-Production phase. This is the beginning stage where will plan how your video will look and sound on paper. Each detail of your video is worked out in this phase and storyboard visuals are drawn up so we can plan your video journey. A script is written to accompany the visuals and a voice over artist is chosen to record this. We schedule meetings with you and your team to fully understand your requirements for the video and design the look and feel of your video.

PRODUCTION

The next phase when pre-production is agreed is the production stage, where your video is filmed. We use cinema quality ultra high definition 4K camera equipment, so this ensures that your video is recorded in the highest possible resolution and achieves the optimum broadcast standards.

POST-PRODUCTION

When all of your footage as been recorded we move to the post-production phase, assembling your video like a jigsaw puzzle. We add music and sound effects, animation and motion graphics, your logo and brand colours.

When we have an edit ready for approval we then send you a link to view your video privately, so that you can make any changes or suggestions to the final edit.

As I am sure that you can appreciate by now, all of this process takes time and a lot of effort to ensure that it achieves what you required at the very start.

So by having an idea of your budget will help to determine the execution of your video and how much of the above process we are able to offer you. It will help us to determine if we can use more than one camera to record your footage, if we can afford to use actors or presenters. It will determine if we can make your video stand out with animation and additional effects or not and most importantly it will determine if we can work with you on your project in the first place. We would compare ourselves to a high-end restaurant that offers a complete quality of service with the highest of values. Where when you sit down to order your food you are presented with a gourmet choice, not burger and fries to go.
